COVID-19 Response

In light of the current concerns around the Coronavirus and the way it may impact on the support that we provide to you, the team at Community Home Care (CHC) wish to reassure you that, based on advice from the Department of Health, there is currently no direct threat to the community in the South West. However, we understand that this is a rapidly developing situation and we are closely monitoring all changes to the advice and are making contingency plans to deal with the situation in case the virus becomes more widespread.

All CHC staff are trained to follow the correct procedures to minimise the possibility of cross infection, including following correct handwashing procedures and the use of personal protective equipment as required. These precautions are particularly relevant as we are coming into the regular cold and flu season.

CHC is committed, at all times, to maintaining the health and safety of all CHC clients and staff.

To assist in this process, we ask that any clients who have recently travelled to areas affected by the Coronavirus, or have had contact with other people who have travelled to these areas, to please let us know immediately so that we can take steps to limit the possibility of cross infection. Please be assured that we are taking these same measures with all CHC staff and volunteers.

The Government has asked that all aged care providers, clients and families continue to be collaborative, constructive and responsible, and ensure you get any information from Government Health websites. Please do not rely on social media or other non-authorised news sites as your source as it is very important that you are only responding to correct information.

The services that CHC delivers are considered essential so we will continue to provide all of our In-Home, Gardening, Meals on Wheels and Transport services as usual. While we understand that some of you are voluntarily suspending your services we will continue to provide support to those who need it.

At this time, in order to comply with the requirement to limit social gatherings, we have suspended all our social group activities. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and want you to know we will start all of our groups up again as soon as we can.

In order to provide extra support to people who are isolating themselves CHC is increasing its offering of ‘shopping by list’ services. You can leave a list and means of payment out for our workers or volunteers and we will complete your shopping and drop it back to you without having to have direct contact. Because of the shortage of some goods we may not be able to get everything you want but we can help you get the basics, as well as get medicines and other important items.

For people who are missing out on social contact we are also increasing our telephone social support phone calls. Our friendly volunteers will be very happy to give you a call to make sure you’re OK or just have a bit of a chat to liven up your day. This can be once or twice a week, or everyday if you would prefer.

We understand that some clients who are concerned about their health have requested staff use face masks when they are visiting. The advice from the Department of Health is that masks should only be used when they are specifically warranted. We can reassure you that none of our staff will be coming to your home if they are unwell. All our staff are trained in infection control procedures and are strictly following all of the instructions provided by the health authorities. We do ask that if you are unwell with cold or flu symptoms, or if you have any of the symptoms below, please let us know so we can take the appropriate precautions.

Again, we would also like to reinforce that we are asking that any clients who have recently travelled to areas affected by the Coronavirus, or have had contact with other people who have travelled to these areas, to please let us know immediately so that we can take steps to limit the possibility of cross infection. Please be assured that we are taking these same measures with all CHC staff and volunteers.

We want to reassure you that we are here to help in whatever ways we can during this difficult time. Your health and safety, and the health and safety of our staff and volunteers, are our highest priorities.
